Unreliable sync and risk of losing notes

Users experience painful, anxiety‑inducing sync failures: they must wait to avoid partial syncs or end up losing entire vaults. To cope they pay for vendor sync or run self‑hosted tools (Syncthing, FolderSync) or install real‑time plugins. They explicitly desire a background, reliable, encrypted sync with robust conflict handling.

Individual Obsidian/PKM users (students, writers, long-time note collectors) who use multiple devices (phone, tablet, PC) and rely on cloud sync.

New user here. The main issue I’m having with this app is syncing.

Pain

Sync is slow, fragile or manual across devices; users must wait for sync to finish or risk partially synced notes and outright data loss (lost vaults). This creates anxiety and extra steps (open/write/wait), and users say they 'don't want to think about syncing at all.'

The main issue I’m having with this app is syncing... I have to be very conscious while using the app - open it, write something, then wait before closing it... If I don’t wait, I sometimes end up with partially synced notes.

I just lost everything😭... I guess nothing was synced outside of just on that phone.

If this is not real-time it most definitely feels like it is! Thank you so much! The installation was pretty effortless and now my notes are synced across my pc's and phone!

Workaround
3 evidence
Users adopt third-party sync tools or paid vendor syncs (Obsidian Sync, Syncthing, FolderSync), run self-hosted sync daemons, or install real-time sync plugins to avoid native sync problems.

Just FYI, the student the price is $2.40/mo

Use Syncthing directly for free, no need to sync via Google Drive.

I made a plugin that helped synchronize your obsidian vault locally, Obsidian Decentralized (v2) ... displays active transfers with upload/download speed, time remaining ...

Resistance

Concerns about security, encryption, conflict handling, and how third‑party sync tools handle edge cases or unsupported characters slow adoption; users worry about where vaults are stored and conflict resolution.

is it encrypted and where are our vaults stored? how does it handle unsupported characters in titles ... how does it handle conflicts?

Desire

A fast, reliable, background sync that never requires users to 'wait' — ideally real‑time, encrypted, conflict‑safe, and transparent.

I don't want to think about syncing at all. I just want to open the app, write, and close it, that’s it.
