Gamers using Excel/Sheets/web apps because game UI lacks practical note/squad planning

Football Manager players regularly plan squads, formations, and track youth outside the game because the in-game planner is either unused or insufficient for their workflow. They cope by using Excel/Google Sheets, local notepads, physical journals, or building companion web apps. Several players explicitly want a companion app to carry save/admin tasks on the go.

Football Manager players (savers who plan squads across seasons), including some technically-skilled players who build companion tools.

Previously I used Google Sheet for squad planning, but this year I decided to create a web app for squad planning. I work as a full time developer and I figured this could be a nice side project.

Football Manager players need to plan squads, formations, starters/backups and track youth/potential outside the game because the in-game tools are inconvenient or unused for that workflow.

I have an excel sheet where I plan my first and second (and reserve) XIs for the following season. That's about it really but it makes a big difference for squad planning. I know there is a tool in-game now (or there was in FM24, haven't played 26 yet) but I haven't used it.

I have an excel document where I keep track of my formation and my starters/backups for each position. I also keep a notepad document open on my second monitor to take notes on while I'm playing.

Sometimes I’ll use a Football Manager journal I bought from Amazon as I prefer making handwritten notes on players I wish to buy

Players want a lightweight companion (web or mobile) to carry out squad planning/admin tasks on the go and a better out-of-game planner that integrates with their save/workflow.

Reading this post and stuff people do out of game reminds me of a companion app idea I had years ago. Basically app that lets you take your save on the go with you. Unlike FM mobile or FM touch this isn’t a separate version of the game, but a platform that lets you carry out minor admin tasks for
